Abs Exercise Machines: Big Problem With Ab Machines and Your Abs

I hope you are being faithful to me, and your ‘AtlaStyle’ exercise sessions…

I have to tell you what happened today…

We have a typical fitness center in our community. A full circuit of machines with weights stacks, some benches with dumbbells, a line of cardio equip., and some more free weights – NOT how ‘Joey Atlas’ would have advised them to put the place together… anyhow…

While my creation, The Bodyweight & Band Family Home Gym, is being built for our house – I’ve been using our community’s fitness center for some of my workouts (I get lots of stares, glares and questions – when everyone see me doing all this bodyweight stuff and not lifting an ounce of weight or touching a machine with a weight stack on it.)

There is a tiny mat/stretching area – and I was going through one of my 20 minute Abs/Core routines from my dvds: http://www.AbsofStoneCoreofSteel.com – and a woman was about 6 feet away from me, using this massive ‘abcrunch’, body-folding unit…

When I stopped for second – she asks “What do all of those exercises do?”

I reply – “They all target your abs and core in a balanced and safe way – while bringing results better than any machine.”

She says, “So those moves are better than this thing I’m using?”

I say, “Exactly.”

She says, “I find that hard to believe. Because this machine is made for the abs and stomach area.”

I reply, “Please dont take offense to this, but how long have you been using that machine?”

She says, “3 or 4 times a week for the last 5 months.”

I say, “Has your midriff changed at all?”

She says, “It’s stronger, but it still looks he same.”

I say, “So are you going to keep doing it – or look for something that will bring you the changes you are looking for?”

I also went on to explain why machines like this simply cannot stimulate and properly engage the hundreds of muscles in the female abdominal, core and lower back region – and that the unnatural, repetitive motion can often leads to injuries and setbacks.

She smiles and says – “OK – can you teach me your routine?”

I say, “Yes – and then some… Just go to: http://www.AbsofStoneCoreofSteel.com you can get my world famous abs and core program right from the site. I’ll be teaching you via the DVDs – and then you can come in here and tell others how to do things right – and get results.”

She was totally excited – she couldn’t even wait – she dashed out of the fitness center and said she was going to order her dvds asap.

Encounters like this are very fun – and I always welcome them.

It’s much easier when I go somewhere as an ‘unknown’ and nobody knows my background – but its also fun to feel like a celebrity and have clients and subscribers recognize me in public and politely approach me and say, “Hey, aren’t you Joey Atlas? OMG, I have your programs – and your stuff is amazing – It’s so cool to meet you in the flesh!”

My kids get a kick out of that stuff when they are with me.

FTC Stops Another Diet Pill Scammer, But Still More On the Loose


Weight-loss-pill marketers who offered free samples in order to obtain credit card information have agreed to stop making false claims and unauthorized charges. The marketers-Neil J. Wardle, Pace Mannion, Christopher J. Wardle, and their companies UltraLife Fitness Inc. and Tru Genix LLC-made false and unsubstantiated statements that hoodia would cause long-term or permanent weight loss without having to reduce caloric intake or increase physical activity.

Many customers who provided their credit card information to cover shipping and handling were also charged for unauthorized periodic shipments. The FTC complaint was settled with a consent agreement under which the defendants were ordered to pay $9.9 million (the total estimated consumer injury).

However, based on inability to pay, each of the three must pay only $50,000 and the rest was suspended. The settlement agreement also bars the defendants from misrepresenting any material fact in connection with the sale of a dietary supplement, food, drug, device, or health-related program or service and from using billing information to acquire unauthorized payments.

Since 1990, the FTC has brought more than 100 regulatory actions against dubious weight-loss products. Despite this effort, the number of scams appears to be growing. Their marketers know that only a small percentage of scammers encounter regulatory action and that even those who do might still make millions.

The marketplace might improve, however, if weight-loss scams could be made less profitable to their “silent accomplices”: the media and credit card companies that facilitate the flow of misinformation and money. It probably would help to lengthen the period during which credit card holders can protest for unauthorized charges or nondelivery of dietary supplement products.

True Fitness Is Deeper Than Superficial Vanity

If you’ve been following me for more than a few months – you’ll know that I have a different take on fitness success… I’ve said before, maybe in slightly different words – you eat well, and exercise not JUST too look incredible – but too feel your best and to ultimately live your life to the fullest, in all aspects.
When your body, mind and spirit are ‘tuned-in’ and well primed – everything you do is that much better. As a matter of fact, your potential to do more meaningful ‘things’ is tremendously enhanced and chances of success are greatly improved.

I know when I talk about fitness from the ‘mind, body, spirit’ angle – some people start to get the puzzled look on their face. But, it’s really not that complicated…

See, there’s a word that keeps coming up in some of the emails I get, some of the blogs comments people are leaving and in some of the posts in my private forum.


The word is Self Image.


Why do I bring self image into this conversation?

Because a healthy and vibrant self image is the easiest and strongest way to be in touch with your spirit. I’m not talking about an outwardly fake, offensively boisterous personality – I’m talking about the kind of self image that exudes confidence, happiness and a genuine appreciation for, and enjoyment of, “life”.

I’m a voracious reader. In the last 4 weeks I’ve torn through 3 fairly thick books. I have a never ending desire to learn – not just about ‘other topics’ relevant to my activities and business – but the desire to learn about “me”, the ’self’ – and in doing so, I learn about “you”. Let me explain…

In life, especially throughout childhood – the only information we have to go on is what we get from the people that are closest to us, such as family, friends and teachers (and unfortunately – the mass media).

I’m talking about the kind of information that molds, shapes and influences who we become as adults. Every generation has its own set of societal ‘ways of life’ – and digging deeper, we can see that different classes of society (lower, middle, upper, etc…) has its own subset of ‘ways of life’.

The deeper we dig, the more specific the ‘ways of life’ get – until you reach the level of ‘immediate (and nuclear) family unit’.


Let’s take my family, as an example.


My father came from Sicily when he was 13 years old, with the rest of his family. My mother’s parents came from Calabria – and gave birth to my mom in Brooklyn, NY. They all came to the US to give the future generations (me, my siblings, cousins, our kids, etc…) a better chance for success and a better way of life.

They taught us what they could, mostly by example – and some they tried to deliver in their own words. All of our grandparents were hard workers – tailors, seamstresses…

After serving in the US reserves (helo. medical rescue) – my father became a carpenter’s apprentice – and went on to become a master carpenter – capable of building just about anything. (He has since retired – and is now a Certified Personal Trainer, believe it or not).


The one thing I learned from my family is “work hard (I say ’smart’) and go after your dreams.”


But just like any other family – there are limitations on what you are capable of passing on to your offspring. There’s nothing wrong with this – it’s just a fact of life. And this is where the opportunity for self exploration and self education presents itself.


What do I mean by self education?


Simply put, it’s the material you learn outside of formal institutions such as schools, colleges – AND – outside of your familial ‘boundaries’.

Some people naturally tap into this – while others don’t even realize it’s there, waiting to be awoken.

I realized this in my teens – and I’ve been using (and refining) it ever since…

One of the easiest ways to do this is through books.

There are thousands of brilliant people who have walked this earth long before we did – whose writings will remain eternally true and infinitely helpful.

When I say brilliant – I’m not saying these people are any different form me and you. See, we are all pretty much given the same ‘tools’ when we are born. – What we choose to do with these tools during our life, COMBINED with the various influences in our life, is where the differences become evident.

One such book, which I’m reading right now, was originally written in 1960, by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. The title is Psycho-Cybernetics. Despite the fact that this book was first published in 1960 – it’s still a perennial bestseller. The primary reason being that this is a life-changing book.


This is one book I wish I found 20 years ago – But you know what I say… “It’s never too late.”


I think I’ve written long enough today – and I thank you for sticking with me. So I won’t go into a review of the book. You’ll be better served by just going to Amazon and getting a copy. Even if you can read 2 or 3 pages a day – you’ll be emailing me in a few weeks to says ‘thanks’ for recommending it.

And it doesn’t matter where you are in your life – this book is a valuable perspective on self image, self value and the realization of your ’self-potential’. Even if you’ve “accomplished all that you wanted – and are 100% happy” – the tools and lessons in this book will allow you to help those around you in ways you can’t imagine.

Hi Joey,

I decided to take a picture today to show you that I am still going strong with my new lifestyle. To date my percentage of body weight that I have lost is 58.20 % going from 378 Lbs down to 220 Lbs – and 48 pants down to 34 pants.

I said back before I started that “I wish I could get into size 34 pants…” and thanks to you Joey I have made a long shot possible. Thanks for your guidance and direction over the past year or so – it’s greatly appreciated.

I feel like I’m my own personal trainer now, always pushing myself to take one more step or one ab rep, and complimenting myself each time. It gives me so much satisfaction to wipe out the old way of life that could have put me in the grave being that there is heart trouble in my family and strive for a better and longer life now.

My blood pressure is all normal, thank God!

Two days ago I had a lady tell me that whenever she watches The Biggest Loser she thinks of me and I said “Oh, thanks!”… she tells me I’m doing a great job.
